Lacrosse has almost always been a part of Drew Calvert’s life.
“I love the physicality combined with the unique skill needed (for the sport),” he said.
That’s one of the reasons why the born and bred Center Grove resident decided to coach the sport for boys. There are other reasons as well.
“Because these ages are the start of their key developmental years as young men, and seeing them grow to their potential is one of the most exciting things in life to witness,” Calvert said. “Also, I think they’re hilarious.
“I love the ability to teach young men at what could be considered their most important developmental years, both as an athlete and relationally before going out into the world as young adults,” Calvert said. “Watching players implement and improve on what you have taught them is the greatest feeling in the world.”
A graduate of Center Grove High School, Calvert majored in history at Ball State University. He met his wife, Abigail, while both were attending a youth group at Stones Crossing Church.
“We played in the worship band together,” he recalled. “We first started dating after I asked her to my senior prom at CGHS in 2010 and have been together ever since.”
Calvert’s spiritual life influences his leadership abilities and relationships with others.
“Following the example of Jesus’ life, such as his confident communication, genuine relationships and his goal to honor God, helped me form a culture for the lacrosse team that encourages those same morals.”
Drew and Abigail are expecting their first child, a boy, in September.
What is your greatest virtue?
Every single interaction that you have with another person makes an impact, positive or negative, on both you and them.
What upsets you?
Lack of preparation.
What do you like best about Center Grove?
I love the large community with a small-town feel. Big enough to have many opportunities but small enough to grow strong and meaningful relationships.

Tried & True Alehouse
If you had to live anywhere else in the Metro Indianapolis area, where would it be?
Fountain Square/downtown Indy.
If you could begin life over, what would you change?
I would have taken more time to consider what to study in college.
If money were no issue, how would you spend it?
I’d donate to Center Grove community organizations and buy a new truck!
What makes you happiest?
Doing life with my family.

What is your favorite vacation spot?
On a beach in Florida with good friends and family.
What do you do with idle time?
Watch game films/college lacrosse.

Watch movies with my wife and play video games.

Jesus Christ, my wife, my family and my players.
Which living people in Center Grove do you most admire?
My parents, Larry and Pam Calvert, and my brother, Luke Calvert.
What quality do you admire most in another person?
Dedication.
What is your greatest extravagance?
Probably my dog, Hobie.
What is your greatest fear?
Failing people that count on me.
What has been the happiest time of your life?
Learning that I am going to be a dad.
Is there a special talent you really wish you had?
Being a really good cook.
What do you most value in your friends?
The ability to drop everything and have a good time.
Which historical figure do you most admire?
Jesus Christ, for his ability to live a perfect life in an imperfect world to save the imperfect people in it.
What would people be surprised to learn about you?
That I play drums and I geek out on movies and video games.
