Center Grove woman starts nonprofit to support women grieving miscarriage loss and struggling with infertility

By Nancy Price

For years, Jenna Wright suffered secondary infertility and multiple miscarriage losses.

“I found there wasn’t much in the way of support or instruction about what to do next after you’ve suffered a loss,” she said. “We felt so alone and wanted to provide a simpler way to help these families feel loved and supported right after a loss.”

In October of 2017, Wright and her husband started Hannah’s Wish. “I really related to Hannah in Samuel 1,” she said of the nonprofit name’s inspiration. “(Hannah) was mourning because she couldn’t have children and I could relate to that. I had my first born but I still longed to grow our family no matter how thankful I was to already be a mom.”

Hannah’s Wish supports other women with infertility struggles and miscarriage losses. “Their provider passes out our information and they are able to text a phone number with a code and their email address. We email them a gift certificate to a restaurant that delivers or does curbside takeout.”

The nonprofit also connects families to support groups. “One of the biggest things these women want is for someone to remember their babies, so we’re hosting an event to honor bereaved moms and their babies,” Wright said.

The event, “A Tea to Remember” will be held May 2 at The Nest. Registration is now open at hannahswish.org.

What is your greatest virtue? I am compassionate. I can empathize with people and connect with them where they are.

What upsets you? Everything … if I let it. I’m a natural worrier so I have to make sure I don’t let it overtake me. I don’t like to think about what upsets me unless I’m in a position to do something to change it. Hannah’s Wish was born out of my desire to change the environment around infertility, miscarriage, stillbirth and infant loss.

What do you like best about Center Grove? I love the way the people in Center Grove love one another. Everyone is so supportive and that makes it a great place to raise a family.

What’s your favorite Southside eatery? I love to eat at Tried & True Alehouse.

If you had to live anywhere else in the Metro Indianapolis area, where would it be? I can’t imagine living anywhere else.

If you could begin life over, what would you change? My life has been a series of obstacles that have led to who I am today. I learned that God doesn’t waste those challenges and without them I wouldn’t be the person I am today.

If money were no issue, how would you spend it? I’d work with an accomplished author to publish a Hannah’s Wish Bible study to help facilitate more support groups around the country.

What makes you happiest? My husband and my children.

Pick three adjectives that best describe you. Brave, caring and ambitious.

What is your favorite vacation spot? I love anywhere with a beach! We like to try new spots but one of my favorites is Ft. Myers, Fla.

What do you do with idle time? What’s that?

What would you change about our culture if you could? I would change the way we handle pregnancy loss and infant death. It is a heavy topic but if some light were shed on it and how people feel after experiencing it, I feel like people would understand it better and handle it with care.

How do you escape from reality? Working out and running. When I put in my air pods and go, I’m able to escape and then regroup.

What do you love most in life? God, my family, my friends and the relationships I’ve gained through Hannah’s Wish.

Which living person in Center Grove do you most admire? I really don’t have one person I admire. I really admire the women and men who come to our Hannah’s Wish support groups. It takes a ton of courage to walk through that door and be vulnerable.

What quality do you admire most in another person? I admire perseverance and determination.

What is your greatest extravagance? I like designer handbags! I’m carrying a diaper bag instead right now, but I’m looking forward to carrying a purse again!

What is your greatest fear?  Without question, losing someone I love.

What has been the happiest time of your life?  When I met my husband, Jon! That time was special and today we are living the hopes and dreams we spent hours talking about so many years ago!

Is there a special talent you really wish you had? I wish I was a dancer like my oldest daughter!  She is so graceful, and I am not!

What do you most value in your friends?  Their loyalty. I have some amazing friends who have been by my side for years.

Which historical figure do you most admire? Rosa Parks.

What tenet do you live by?  Treat others the way you’d want to be treated. Jesus instructed us to LOVE one another. I try every day to love someone who doesn’t feel loved. Showing love is an amazing way to be the change you want to see in this world.

What would people be surprised to learn about you? I played Division III college volleyball at the University of Mount Union.
